Being in charge of their learning, children actively seek out the order and calm they need to fulfil the biological stages of their natural development:
3. small objects
5. refinement of senses
6. social awareness
The prepared environment of the nursery reflects these stages.
Children develop and share their knowledge and skills. They take pride in their nursery. They know it is theirs and they are responsible for how it looks.
Children are joyful, content and self-assured.
Practical life exercises teach the skills needed for daily life. Pouring, sorting, transferring, dressing, washing, eating, stacking... What adults take for granted, the child wants to learn. The joy of doing something is unique to children. We do not pour for the sake of it. Children do.
Maths and Language development is easy, rapid and effective because the tools teach by touch, sound and movement. The brain takes in complex procedures because the children are doing them with their hands.
Once a child has learned how to learn, cultural knowledge is easily acquired. Geometry, geography, history, biology, astronomy and science are all part of the pre-school curriculum. Children learn that things are unique but interconnected.
Repetition and working alone creates joy, contentment and self-assurance.
